Donald Teskey
Coastline Narratives
17 October to 9 November 2006
Teskey's new series of paintings and drawings take the form of elemental studies: rock, sea and sky are the materials of his compositions which continue the architectonic examination of his Irish surrounds, no longer requiring the evidence of human existence.
His recent museum show at the Limerick City Gallery of Art included a triumphant group of giant canvases and, here in London, Art First will include paintings of near-monumental scale - breathtaking exercises in light, colour, surface and form - as well as a stunning triptych in charcoal on paper. Teskey's control of the subject, to extend the possibilities of what his handling of paint can do, shows an artist in full maturity at ease with his metier.
