Kate McCrickard

England's Dreaming

Galerie Hoang Beli, 30 Rue Chapon, Paris 3e
15 March - 12 April 2025

McCrickard’s co-exhibitors are British artists Orlando Campbell and Rupert Shrive, in her first appearance in the gallery, close to Centre Pompidou . The exhibition has been curated by French-British artist Karen Tronel, who brings the three artists together for the first time. McCrickard’s paitings are all recent, from the past two years and emerge from her New Romantics series which continues apace.

McCrickard is a British-French artist and also a writer. Of her own work, she writes that her paintings “are observed from sketches made from life or historic paintings and sculpture; others are imagined or remembered. I see the world through art historical images and in each work, there is always a prompt, something recognised from art history. Some figures are dressed in contemporary clothing while others are dressed in clothes from centuries past. Some are naked, some are animals. Most are knotted or entangled in an enactment of our noisy modern lives.”

It is a description which perfectly suits the body of work selected for this pertinent exhibition.
